"Eldritch Horror" is a piece born from structural chaos and obsessive transformation. Originally turned as a thin-walled apple wood vase, the volatile nature of the fruitwood caused it to crack severely during the drying process. Rather than abandoning the vessel, the massive split was integrated into the artwork itself, transformed into a yawning, tooth-lined maw of a cosmic nightmare.
Because of the thinness of the walls, the chaotic texture was brought to life using a meticulous relief-style carving technique. Swirling tentacles, textured suction cups, and numerous unblinking, detailed eyes erupt across the undulating surface of the bulbous body. The stark, clean live-edge rim contrasts sharply with the dark, maddening imagery below. To pull the abyssal depth out of the grain, the exterior was deeply ebonized and woodburned to define the fine details, then sealed with a classic blend of tung and orange oil. It stands as a striking testament to turning a technical failure into a dark, mesmerizing sculptural triumph.
