About The Artist
I have been making things with my hands my whole life. It’s a primal need, it’s where I find peace in a life of chaos and tragedy. Its how I can add a little beauty into the world.
Humor is how I have delt with the difficulties life has thrown my way and is as much a part of me as the need to create.
Hand-turned crossgrain from spalted White Oak, this striking vase features an expressive, angular shoulder taper leading to a distinct rounded collar rim. Utilizing traditional charring techniques (Shou Sugi Ban style), the exterior surface is transformed into a rich, deep ebony black that accentuates the dramatic growth ring patterns and open grain texture of the oak. The fire-treated finish brings out incredible tactile depth, highlighting the natural movement and grain orientation of the wood while giving the piece an alluring, rustic-modern sculptural presence.
Please note: This piece still likely has some drying to do as of August 2026, so it may continue to move over the next several months.
