Turned crossgrain from a colossal piece of quilted and pillowed Red Maple, this monumental footed bowl is a true masterwork of scale and natural character. The expansive interior displays hypnotic, shimmering quilted figure framed by dramatic dark heartwood inclusions and natural spalting lines. Along the exterior, a major natural fissure is expertly stabilized with a stitched series of dark butterfly/bowtie keys, adding structural integrity and a striking architectural accent. Elevated on hand-carved feet, the bowl achieves a graceful, floating silhouette despite its immense scale.

The piece warped in wonderful ways as it has dried.
